Win Hill

463mE Ethel

Win Hill is an Ethel, 463m high, in the Peak District National Park, and also counts as a HuMP. The Ethels are the Peak District's hilltops, mostly over 400 metres, named for Ethel Haythornthwaite and announced by CPRE Peak District and South Yorkshire in 2021.

Hope (Derbyshire) is the nearest station, 1.2 mi (about 1.5 mi on foot), so the summit is within walking distance of the train. From Hope (Derbyshire) it's about 1 hour to the summit, 1 in 7 on average. Bamford is next, 2.1 mi (about 2.5 to 3 mi on foot), and 9 stations are within 10 miles in all. Crook Hill is the only other listed hill within 2 miles.

Win Hill is a hill north west of Bamford in the Derbyshire Peak District of England. Its summit is 462 m (1,516 ft) above sea level and it is bounded by the River Derwent to the east, the River Noe to the south west and Ladybower Reservoir to the north, with a ridge running north west linking it to Kinder Scout. The Roman road from Glossop over the Snake Pass crosses the ridge to the north and descends to Hope and the old Roman base of Brough in the Hope Valley, with the Hope Cross, a marker post dating from 1737, at the highest point of the road.
